Orthi Ammos Beach

Orthi Ammos Beach sits east of Frangokastello on the south coast of Crete, facing the Libyan Sea. Access is by unpaved track, with informal parking near the end of the track and a short walk to the sand. Stay on established tracks and respect adjacent land. There is no direct public transport, so most visitors arrive by car or on foot from Frangokastello. Morning generally brings calmer wind and easier parking, while late afternoon brings softer sun. The beach has a sandy surface and sandy entry to the water. Swimming is often calm in summer, but conditions can turn wavy when wind increases. There is no lifeguard service, so swimming is a personal responsibility. The setting is undeveloped, with no facilities, toilets, showers, or food and drink outlets. Bring water, food, sun protection, and an umbrella or sun shelter, as natural shade is limited and midday sun is strong and exposed. Late spring to early autumn is the warmest and most reliable period; summer is hot with seasonal wind, while winter is cooler and unsettled. June to September is the practical window for swimming and sunbathing. A half-day visit is common because of the lack of amenities. The beach has no set opening hours and is used during daylight. There is no ticketed entry or admission fee. The shore is generally quiet with low use, although privacy varies with visitor numbers. Dogs have no documented rules, so owners should keep animals controlled and away from others. Carry everything out with you and leave space between groups to keep the quiet setting undisturbed.
